Large amounts of unlicensed medications have been taken by Department of Health officials during a search of a home in Glengormley.

A male was spoken with by department officers about illegally importing and subsequently supplying unlicensed impotence medications via the web.

The 47-year-old was likewise questioned about other medication offenses.

He will now be the topic of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was carried out by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement office, Peter Moore, said: "It is vital that we get the message across that unlicensed medications can be unsafe.

"These kinds of being sold, typically online, have actually undergone no quality control and there can be no assurance about their safety.

"You just do not know what you are taking or the conditions these products were made in. More notably, you do not know the result drugs like this may have on your health."
